Priscilla Marr is our Costume Mistress for 'Stronger, Freer', an original play written specifically for Canada 150, playing in Stouffville on June 15, 17, and 18.
"Priscilla Marr was the force behind the creation of the Stouffville Theatre Company", said Patrick Lannigan, board member of Stouffville Theatre Company. "The woman has magical powers to make things happen with minimal resources. Her organizational capabilities along with her ability to manage volunteers and keep calm under stress is matched by few other people I've met."
A costume mistress (aka "costume designer") is responsible for the development of wardrobe for a theatre production.
Here's a quote from Wikipedia on what a costume designer does:
A costume designer is a person who designs costumes for a film, stage production or television. The role of the costume designer is to create the characters and balance the scenes with texture and colour, etc. The costume designer works alongside the director, scenic, lighting designer, sound designer, and other creative personnel. The costume designer may also collaborate with hair stylist, wig master, or makeup artist. In European theatre, the role is different, as the theatre designer usually designs both costume and scenic elements.
Stronger, Freer is a play that follows a family through 150 years of Canadian history and is playing in Stouffville on June 15, 17, and 18. Tickets are available online here, and from handsome men in Stouffville.
